Right from the clothing boys and girls are supposed to wear to the toys they are supposed to play with, they tend to be highly stratified. As they grow up, they tend to be shaped by what they should be doing, the field they should have interest in as well as industries they should venture in. One would also note that the recreational priorities for both men and women tend to differ due to their differing socialization. During this socialization, girls tends to be taught to put on skirts as well as how to sit with the skirts while boys are socialized to put on trousers. Even while the society may be preaching that there is progress towards bridging these gaps, there are still gaps women should join and work together towards crossing the gap.

If you were ever told by your parents that playing football is wrong because football is meant for boys, you are a victim of socialization. You may have been told that trousers are for boys and that you should play with Barbie. These are some of the avenues that were used to socialize you into believing that some tasks, behaviors, and roles are meant for women. It would be essential to remember that children tend to be born without gender but the society tends to socialize it into them.
